Couple Marries In Care Home So Bride's Ailing Great-Grandmother Could Walk Her Down The Aisle
Bianca Suarez, 39, and her fianc¨¦e, Mark Rodgers, 43, were engaged in February 2009. But things kept coming up and they never married. That was until Bianca's sickly great-grandmother, Margaret Ripley, 99, told a member of staff at her nursing home that she feared she wouldn't live long enough to see them marry.
This couple chose an unusual wedding location for a genuinely nice reason, conducting their nuptials in a nursing facility so the bride's great-grandmother could be present. Here's their story.
Couple decides to get married at a care home
Bianca Suarez, 39, and her fianc¨¦e, Mark Rodgers, 43, were engaged in February 2009, but things kept coming up and they never married. That was until Bianca's ailing great-grandmother, Margaret Ripley, 99, told a member of staff at her nursing home that she feared she wouldn't live long enough to see them marry.
As a result, staff recommended that Bianca and Mark, a labourer, finally spend their big day in the facility, allowing Margaret to escort Bianca down the aisle.
"We were going to attempt to save enough money this year to get married next year, but it was looking like nan would not be here," said Bianca, a carer from Woking, Surrey.
The couple wanted to have a less expensive wedding
"First, we decided to stage a mock wedding in which we dressed up and had the employees pretend to be the vicar. But then we decided to do it right and have her walk me down the aisle. It was a scramble to get everything together in time, but it just came into place," she explained.
"I posted on Facebook asking if dreams can come true and detailing how ill Nan was and how we were moving the wedding earlier because of it," Bianca explained.
"Because we didn't have much money, we asked if we could borrow goods from individuals, and the response was amazing."
