DU College Recreates Lahore University's 'Batch Shaadi' And Students Can't Get Over It
Students of Shivaji College in Delhi University followed in the footsteps of their Lahore counterparts and organised a "batch shaadi" on campus.
Not long ago, a fake ¡°shaadi¡± organised during a fest at the Lahore University of Management Sciences went viral. Desi students were excited to watch the college lads enjoy their time during the rituals of the fake ¡°batch shaadi.¡± However, who knew the custom followed in Lahore would travel all the way to Delhi?
Students At Shivaji College Organise A 'Batch Shaadi' On Campus
Students at Shivaji College of Delhi University got inspired by their next-door neighbours and decided to hold a wedding on campus. As the fest season rolls by in the colleges of Delhi, student bodies come up with outlandish ideas to get their names out there. Students of Shivaji College decided to celebrate a shaadi while they were trying to promote their plans for the summer.
In the clip going around on Instagram, students recreate a typical Hindu wedding on the college campus. There was a groom and a bride, along with excited "baratis". The bride was welcomed into the main scene with all the jazz of a wedding as she pulled up a veil on her head.
There was also an official meeting between the bride and the groom, during which the fake groom acted bashful and smitten to invoke the emotions of a real wedding. There was music and sweets, two integral parts of the Hindu wedding experience.
The College Students Recreated Wedding Rituals
The students also recreated the rituals of a real wedding as the supposed groom and bride exchanged flower garlands to kick-start the "wedding". The groom and bride were also blessed by the "families." The pair also indulged in a few after-wedding games that are played following a typical Indian wedding.
The groom and the bride searched for rings inside a bowl of milk, and the girls took away the groom¡¯s shoes. All of this was part of the staged wedding that the students enjoyed in order to unveil their upcoming college fest.
The idea was a hit with people on the internet. One user was proud of the student body¡¯s idea to recreate the LUMS "batch shaadi" ceremony as they wrote, "Bestttttt hai apun log." While one was not impressed by the idea, "LUMS waala best tha its looking like they are try to copy them¡"
One user thought the college students passed their assignment to recreate the LUMS custom, "They walked so sir @shreyanteotia could fly." Another was leaning more towards the grandiose of the Lahore University festivities, "Nice, can be celebrated well with some organised fundraising to ensure more fun filled entertainment."
