Drought-Hit Telengana Farmer Went To Dubai To Find Work, Won Rs 28.5 Crore Lottery Instead!
Vilas Rikkala a farmer from Telengana had gone to Dubai in 2014 to escape the effects of severe drought that gripped the state. He found meager jobs there and worked as a coolie and driver. Last month he returned to his village Nizamabad as his visa was about to expire. Before leaving Abu Dhabi he applied for the monthly UAEs Big Ticket Draw lottery.
You've probably heard of the saying, dena wala jab bhi deta, deta chappar faad ke, right? Some think it is bogus, but it turned out to be true for a farmer who was at his financial low.
Following a severe drought in Telengana, a farmer went to Dubai in the hope of finding some work, but he ended up winning a whopping Rs 28.5 crore in the UAE's Big Ticket Draw.

Before leaving Abu Dhabi, he applied for the monthly UAE's Big Ticket Draw lottery. He saved money and with a help of a friend bought a ticket for the lottery which reportedly cost Rs 20,000. He obviously hoped, like all lottery ticket buyers that he would win a big fat amount.
On Saturday, a friend of his gave him the good news. Rikkala, ecstatic, beyond belief, reportedly said, "Unbelievable. I did not expect it. We all are happy. I ran to my mother's house to inform her and she too couldn't believe her ears.¡±
"I am extremely happy at having won the lottery but even more happy that I will be able to fund the education of two daughters," TOI quoted him as saying.
I don¡¯t think he has to worry about making money anymore by any means, he is set for life; may be a couple or two future generations too if they aren¡¯t too extravagant in their expenditure.
Here we are wondering when will any of this happen to us. What happened in Rikkala's case just proves that you can never say what the future holds for you. One year he was a framer in Telengana, probably struggling to make ends meet, he goes to Dubai and comes back a millionaire.
However, may be every person who wins the lottery isn¡¯t really completely lucky. A man from Detroit, a city in Michigan won a lottery of Rs 208.9 Crore but he was ordered by the court to split it with his divorced wife!
His ex-wife Mary Beth will receive $15 million that her ex-husband Rich Zelasko won. It was argued that since the couple had taken the decision of buying the lottery ticket together, it was marital property and hence the ex-wife had a claim to it. Well not so lucky after all huh?
