Life is difficult for kids born with Down syndrome. However, one girl has defied doctors' 'expectations' and is a model today.
15-year-old Kennedy Garcia was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Since she was born with Down syndrome, doctors said that she would have no quality of life, and said she'd be wearing diapers as an adult.
Her 40-year-old mother Renee made sure that that would not happen. Today, Kennedy who's been signed on by a talent agency goes to New York and Hollywood for auditions. She has booked modelling gigs for American Girl, Justice Clothing, and Disney.
Renee was reportedly advised to 'give her up for adoption' or put her in an institution, by the doctors.
She was heartbroken by the bleak picture the doctors painted. However, she met a midwife who told her that she had a 16-year-old daughter with Down syndrome. This gave Renee a 'glimmer of hope' for the future.
Kennedy battled leukemia, survived a dangerous surgery to correct a spinal condition that could have left her paralysed, to get where she is today.
Talking about Kennedy¡¯s life Mirror UK quoted her mother as saying, "She has a posse of friends who adore her, she loves to dance, sing and experiment with her hair and makeup. She goes to the cinema with her brother and their friends and sometimes breaks the rules. She has brought so much joy and laughter into our lives and has grown into a gorgeous, funny young woman with the world at her feet."
Most of this has been possible because of the love and dedication of her mother.
