In a desperate attempt to save passengers from a wild elephant, a Kerala driver had to drive the vehicle in reverse for 8 km, and has won praise online for his prompt action during the incident. A spine-chilling video showing the elephant walking furiously towards the bus has sent shivers down the spine of people on the internet.
In a video, shared by Asianet News, you can see the elephant walking along the road while the driver reverses the vehicle without panicking. As per reports, the people on the bus hoped that the elephant will take the muddy route on the left side of the road, but the animal continues to charge towards them on the road.
A person in the video was heard asking the driver to halt and start the vehicle again, hoping the elephant would get scared and eventually stop coming towards the bus. But, in a futile attempt, the animal does not get scared at all but only keeps walking furiously.
The driver belongs to Vetilapara
As per an AV report by Asianet News, the bus driver was identified as Ambhujakshan. He hails from Vetilapara. The driver reportedly informed that there were more than 40 passengers on the bus when this incident happened.
As per another report online, the private bus was accelerating on the Chalakudy-Valparai route in Thrissur, Kerala. The time of the incident has been reported as 9 am on Tuesday. Reportedly, the bus was reversed from Ambalapara to Anakkayam as there was no space to turn the vehicle on the narrow road. Tourist vehicles that followed the bus were diverted.
After an hour of creating panic, the elephant eventually left and entered the forests near Anakkayam area. Who made the video remained unclear, however it can be deduced that it must have been one of the passengers.
