But proposing in public also has its downside. Some people may feel uncomfortable or embarrassed being the centre of attention in a public setting, and it can also be difficult to control the environment or potential interruptions, especially on a flight where people usually notice anything unusual happening.

Passengers on an Air India flight going to Mumbai witnessed a man propose to his fiancee mid-air and in the middle of the aisle.

According to Air India officials, the woman was heading from London to Mumbai via Hyderabad on January 2. She did not know that her now-fiancee had a booking on the same aircraft so he could propose to her.

A video posted by a Twitter user shows him walking down the aisle to where his girlfriend was seated while holding a pink banner that said: "I could walk forever and a mile with you. Would you like to accompany me on my walk?"

According to an Air India official, the passenger was helped by a cabin crew member he knew. The wing woman, who was aware of the scheme, received clearance to facilitate the romantic gesture without upsetting the other passengers.

¡°Being an Air India employee volunteering to assist pax travelling on our Airline is our responsibility,¡± the representative said. ¡°My niece approached me that his friend wants to propose to his to-be fianc¨¦e inside the aircraft who was travelling on Air India LHR/HYD/BOM and so the boy also booked the AI flight BOM/HYD/BOM on 2.1.2023 without her knowledge."

The official explained that, although being pre-planned, the proposal included little red tape. "I only liaised with the crew, and our CC Jayesh Shirpurkar and Grita Tawde made it happen smoothly and without upsetting passengers."

It was a sight for sore eyes for the crew after a string of distressing flight incidents had put Air India under intense scrutiny.
