Mother Of An 'Average' Child Reveals Why They Are Special And Deserve Our Attention Too
Twitter user, Prof Sumathi, properly defined what it feels to be a 'mother of an average child'. She described how her child is perceived in society yet goes 'unnoticed'.
It is easy for society to pass judgement on children who are "average" in everything, whether in school or athletics. But ask their parents how demeaning it can be for their child simply because he or she does not suit society's definition of intelligence.
People talk about the rising number of cases of depression, but often forget to consider the behaviours that may have caused an innocent youngster to suffer from such a distressing affliction. It's high time parents recognise that it's alright for their children to be mediocre and to stop comparing them to the best. It's time for 'us' to believe that 'not all fingers are the same.'

Yes, you read it right. I am the mother of an average child. By average, I simply mean my child is the average learner, average in scoring marks, average in sports and in extra curricular acivities. What's special about him then? 1/10
Twitter user, Prof Sumathi, properly defined what it feels like to be the 'mother of an average child'. She described how her child is perceived in society yet goes 'unnoticed' because he is neither at the top nor at the bottom.
She said, ¡°People fail to notice his sweet smile ,funny talks, tight hugs, friendly personality, kind behaviour, mild manners, helpful nature because he is JUST an average child.¡±
She also mentioned how her child enjoys sports and music despite the fact that he would never be able to compete in them; how his exam lag has frequently caused her to lose her temper only to realise that it is more necessary to be respectful, regardless of age or IQ!
¡°Am I a mother who is not strict with him for not scoring at the top. Yes, I am strict to an extent and have lost my cool many times in the past. His words pierced through me when my 11 year old asked, ¡°mom, do you not respect me"?¡± she revealed.

Notice the average child. All that child wants is a smile or a kind word from us adults for just being himself to give him assurance to trust the world

Prof Sumathi went on to say that her child's desire is to travel the world, sample different cuisines, and meet new people and that she is confident that her child will grow up to be a better person who would spread cheer and joy to everyone, just like he does now.
Lastly, she added: "Notice the average child. All that child wants is a smile or a kind word from us adults for just being himself to give him assurance to trust the world. Each child is different, so is each parenting Style.¡±
