Spain's Maria Branyas Morera, the world's oldest person dies at 117
Branyas was born in San Francisco on March 4, 1907, before her family returned to Spain when she was young. At the time of her death, she was living in a nursing home. As per reports, the next oldest person, as listed by the Gerontology Research Group is 116-year-old Tomiko Itooka from Japan.
American-born Spaniard Maria Branyas held the title of the world¡¯s oldest person at 117 years old. She breathed her last on Tuesday, August 20. Her family confirmed the news of her passing on X wrote: ¡°Maria Branyas has left us. She has gone the way she wanted: in her sleep, at peace, and without pain.¡±

Branyas was born on March 4, 1907 in San Francisco, U.S. Soon after her family returned to Spain where she spent her early days. She breathed her last in a nursing home in Catalan, in Olot where she is said to have been residing for a few years.
The Gerontology Research Group, which validates details of people thought to be 110 or older, listed Branyas as the oldest known person in the world after the death of French nun Lucile Randon last year. The next oldest person listed is 116-year-old Tomiko Itooka from Japan.
Her bio on her X account ¡°Super ?via Catalana" (or "Super Catalan Grandma¡±) reads: ¡°I am old, very old, but not an idiot.¡±
