US Man Who Bought His First Lottery Ticket Due To 'Peer Pressure' Wins Rs 1.2 Crore
A man from Hampton just tasted a rather unexpected success when he bought a lottery ticket under pressure and ended up winning, here's what happened.
Sometimes when you wish for something and even work hard for it, things don't always work out if you don't have luck on your side. Imagine doing something under peer pressure though and actually winning something.
It must be a feeling many might not know, but a man from Hampton, in Virginia, U.S., tasted unexpected success when he bought a lottery ticket under pressure and ended up winning. Here's what happened.
US man won first-ever lottery for Rs 1.2 crore
Virginia Lottery, who recently announced their lottery winners, told media that a man credited "peer pressure" for making him buy his first-ever lottery ticket. He unexpectedly ended up winning the prize of $150,000, which is approximately Rs 1.22 crore.
Danny Johnson told lottery officials that he usually used to tell people who buy lottery tickets they¡¯re wasting their money. But things took an interesting turn, as the Powerball jackpot reached record highs in November, Johnson¡¯s friend started pestering him and he eventually succumbed to the peer pressure and decided to buy a ticket.
Unexpectedly, Johnson ended up winning $150,000, Rs 1.2 crore in the November 5 drawing. It was his first time ever playing the Powerball Jackpot.
Johnson didn't know how much he had won
As Johnson was playing the lottery for the first time he had no idea how to win and how much money he will win.
"I looked at the winning numbers and said, 'Hey I've got a few of those,'" Johnson told Virginia Lottery. "I didn't know how much I'd won because I never play."
The first-time player's ticket matched four numbers as well as a Powerball in the drawing, UPI reported.
As per reports, the winning numbers drawn were 28-45-53-56-69 and the Powerball number was 20. John¡¯s ticket matched four of the first five winning numbers as well as the Powerball number. That many matching numbers would usually result in a $50,000 payout but Johnson¡¯s prize was tripled because he, fortunately, spent an extra dollar for Power Play when he bought the ticket.
Johnson will get gifts for his friends
It's natural to think and plan how to spend all the money someone has won in the lottery. However, Johnson has no immediate plans of splurging the $150,000 on something right away. He does want to eventually buy presents for the friends who made him buy the ticket as a token of thanks.
The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, which is very rare. The overall odds of winning any prize in the Powerball is 1 in 25, and Johnson sure got lucky with it.
