With no winning ticket for the 33rd consecutive drawing, the Powerball jackpot has risen to an incredible $1.4 billion, making it one of the greatest lottery payouts in history. As aspiring players line up around the United States to get their tickets, enthusiasm and expectation are at an all-time high.
How Did The Lottery Increase To $1.4 Billion?
The multi-state Powerball lottery game's jackpot has increased to an astonishing $1.4 billion this week after the 33rd consecutive drawing produced no jackpot winner.
Whoever wins can choose a lump-sum payment of $643.7 million in cash, or more than $500 million, until the next drawing on October 7.
The Powerball jackpot on Saturday is now the third largest in history and the fifth largest in US history. Lottery prizes topped the billion-dollar threshold four times in 2023, twice in Mega Millions and twice in Powerball.
"This is the first time in Powerball game history that consecutive jackpot cycles have produced billion-dollar grand prizes," Lottery Executive Director Eric Hagler stated in a press statement. "The Powerball jackpot was previously won for $1.08 billion on July 19." There have been 32 straight drawings since then with no grand prize winner."

According to a new report, the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots have recently broken records due to the possibility for customers to purchase tickets online and the inclusion of an extra day.
What Is The Winning Number For October 4th?
The winning numbers for the Oct. 4 drawing with a $1.2 billion grand prize were 9, 35, 54, 63, and 64. The winning Powerball number was 1, and the Power Play number was 2. These figures would have made a person a millionaire.
The winning numbers in Wednesday's Double Play drawing were 12, 30, 39, 64, 67, and Powerball 22. Play Double Play for extra cash in 14 states, with a chance to win up to $10 million for $1 every play.
Although no one won the largest prize, ten players each won $1 million by matching the first five numbers on Wednesday. Two of the winners are from California, and each will receive $1,220,123.
Three second-prize tickets with the Power Play option were purchased for an additional $1 per play, tripling their rewards to $2 million. One ticket was sold in Kentucky, another in Pennsylvania, and still another in Texas.
In Wednesday's drawing, 94 tickets won money by matching four white numbers and the Powerball, each winning $50,000.
Thirteen of the 94 tickets had the Power Play option selected, boosting their prize money to $100,000 each.
In addition, 14 of the winning tickets were purchased in California, where the prize for this draw was $17,500.
According to lottery officials, the anticipated Powerball jackpot has been up to $1.4 billion on an annuity basis, with a cash value of $868 million, following Wednesday's drawing.

In-person purchases of tickets are available at gas stations, convenience stores, and grocery stores. Lottery tickets may be sold at some airport terminals.
