Teacher Fired From School After Avoiding Work For 20 Years Using Sick Leaves, Holidays

Finding ways to skip or avoid work is a common phenomenon that people employ in various professions and industries. From calling in sick when perfectly healthy to utilizing vacation days strategically, individuals often resort to creative methods to dodge their work responsibilities.

Some people go to great lengths to find innovative ways to skip or bunk work¡ªwhether to take a break, manage personal commitments, or avoid the monotony of work.

After two decades of consistently avoiding her teaching responsibilities, an Italian teacher, Cinzina Paolina De Lio, has finally faced the consequences of her actions.

Throughout her 24-year tenure, De Lio earned the reputation of being the worst teacher in the country due to her blatant negligence.

She frequently disregarded her students, arriving at classes unprepared and forgetting her textbooks.

Outraged by her lack of dedication, pupils organized strikes to protest against her behavior.

Adding insult to injury, De Lio was caught sending texts during oral exams and providing feedback irrelevant to the work submitted. The culmination of these egregious actions has resulted in her dismissal from the teaching profession.

The Supreme Court has described her as "permanently and unsuitable" for the job.

De Lio successfully evaded her job responsibilities by taking advantage of sick leave, vacation time, and attending conferences.

According to Italian media, the teacher submitted 67 sick leave certificates over the past two decades and had two absences due to workplace accidents.

Additionally, she had three periods of leave from work for health reasons (maternity and breastfeeding) and days off to care for her child.

Apart from the mentioned periods, De Lio also took seven paid parental leaves and days off to assist relatives with disabilities and received five exemptions for training courses.

Following her dismissal from the school, De Lio engaged in a legal battle to reclaim her job.

This led to a court declaring the dismissal provision invalid and reinstating her employment, despite acknowledging her disorganization and carelessness.

Inspectors from the school board became aware of her inadequate and unconventional teaching methods during one of her rare appearances. They observed confused and improvised lessons, noting a lack of logical coherence.

The court's initial decision to dismiss her has now been overturned, confirming her termination due to "absolute and permanent ineptitude for teaching."

When approached by the media for comment, De Lio replied, "Sorry, now I'm at the beach," and further stated that she wouldn't respond to questions from journalists she deemed as lacking fairness in portraying the truth of her unique story.

This case has drawn comparisons to a similar incident involving a Sicilian math teacher who took 769 days off due to ill health, only to be discovered working as a consultant.
