A devoted fan of SEVENTEEN recently shared a hilarious reel where she pretended to be emotional, tearfully reacting to the news of Mingyu's impending hiatus from his idol activities as he prepares to enlist in the South Korean military for his mandatory service. For those who may not be aware, all able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 35 are required to serve in the military, and there are no exceptions for even the global superstars, including K-pop idols and K-drama actors.
In a reassuring gesture, Mingyu himself commented on the fan's post, addressing her concerns about his military enlistment by simply stating "Not yet". This revelation from the Love, Money, Fame singer brought comfort to the emotional fans, giving CARATS a brief respite from worrying.

Jeonghan only member from SEVENTEEN to enlist for mandatory service
SEVENTEEN comprises of thirteen members: S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino.
Jeonghan, born in 1996, is the only member of the group to begin his mandatory service after enlisting in the South Korean military on September 26, 2024.
Why has S.Coups been exempted from military duties?
Meanwhile, the group's leader S.Coups, also a 96 liner, has been exempted from the service due to a knee injury. SEVENTEEN's agency PLEDIS Entertainment confirmed the news in March earlier this year and shared that the idol has been classified as Grade 5.
"Following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery and anterolateral ligament reconstruction surgery on his left knee joint due to a rupture, S.Coups has been undergoing extensive physical rehabilitation since last year. As a result, he has been classified as Grade 5," the agency shared in a statement, as per Koreaboo.
Hoshi opens up about his mandatory service
In a video call fansign, Hoshi opened up about his upcoming military service enlistment with a fan. Hoshi who was born in 1996 turned 28 in 2024, so, naturally, fans are worried he could anytime announce his military service. During the event, Hoshi assured fans that he would be enlisting in 2025; however, he refrained from sharing an exact timeline.
When will Mingyu enlist for his mandatory military service?
Mingyu was born in 1997 and turns 28 next year. He is expected to begin his mandatory service after 96-liners including Hoshi, Wonwoo, and Woozi, begin their service. This means that Mingyu's enlistment is likely to happen in 2026, as he is part of the 97-liner group.
