Sinners box office verdict: The Hollywood film Sinners, which hit the screens in India on April 18, opened to a slow response at the domestic box office despite receiving positive reviews. It earned less than rs 1 crore (nett) on the first day and witnessed only limited growth over the weekend. Now, its box office run is over and the verdict is out.

Sinners fails to work its magic in India

Sinners, which was released in India last month, has failed to work its magic in the country. According to Manobala Vijayabalan, a trade analyst, the vampire saga earned just Rs 11 crore at the domestic box office. He added that the film did not create a buzz among the audience the way Marvel films do, which led to its downfall.

¡°Sinners was a flop in India. The film managed to collect just ?11 cr. Despite positive reviews, Indian audience didn't show much intent to watch it on the big screens like Avengers, Spiderman, Avatar etc,¡± he told Indiatimes.

This essentially means the film has failed to beat the lifetime haul of Thunderbolts, which open in theatres on May 1. The superhero saga earned Rs 15 crore in India in its full run. It benefited from the popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in India. Moreover, Florence Pugh is a known name in the market because of her work in the well-received biographical drama Oppenheimer.

Sinners, meanwhile, has done well globally despite its lacklustre performance in India. Its worldwide haul stands at $290 million, which is a stunning figure given the fact that the film has been shot on a budget of less than $100 million. Sinners is a horror thriller directed by Ryan Coogler. It revolves around twins who try to begin a new chapter in life. Their plans, however, go for a toss when a vampire arrives in their hometown.
