10-Year cancer survivor's 3-month contract terminated within 15 minutes after disclosing need for surgery
The employer ended the contract three months early, leaving the worker without pay or health insurance, forcing them to seek Medicaid for the surgery. This story was shared on the Antiwork subreddit, sparking outrage.
A former contract worker was dismissed "within 15 minutes" of the firm learning about the operation she required. The employee, a ten-year cancer survivor, said that their contract-to-hire was cancelled three months early since they expected to take at least a couple of months to return to work.
The tale broke on the Antiwork subreddit, where the workers anonymously explained how they found themselves out of work for the past month.
What happened with the man on the job?
Nothing quite like ¡°Ending a Contract¡± within 15 minutes of finding out you need surgery

According to the post, the worker was injured on the job, but because they have a chronic ailment, they are not entitled to compensation.
¡°I¡¯m a 10-year cancer survivor. To stabilise my jaw they put a bracket in place, but my cancer metastasized leading to a massive amount of radiation going to that area weakening the bone. Finally about a month ago while working (customer service on phones all day), I felt a pop. That pop was the bracket breaking off of my jaw and now I have a screw scraping my jaw instead of holding it together.¡±

The contractee has been unpaid for the entire time owing to their job terms. However, it wasn't until "yesterday" that they learned how long it would be until they were back in working order.
The doctor expected at least two months, as postoperative recovery takes roughly six weeks. It could take an additional month to get the patient back on track.
¡°I have not heard a word from the company this entire time, only 3 contacts from the Account Manager seeing how I¡¯m feeling, and getting appointment updates. Within 15 minutes of receiving my note detailing the surgery, this company decided to abruptly end my contract,¡± the post read.
Not only has the worker yet to receive their final payment, but they have also stated that being dismissed has terminated their health insurance, forcing them to seek Medicaid before undergoing surgery.
