UK couple ties knot at retirement home
Christopher Streets, 82, and Rosa Streets, 81, married 18 months after their first coffee date. After their husbands died, the couple relocated to the St. Monica Trust's Chocolate Quarter Retirement Village in Keynsham, Somerset.
In an interview with the BBC, former nurse Rosa recalled their first meeting, saying that she first spotted Christopher when he was seated by the window and she was sitting opposite him.
"The sun was shining on him and he had these lovely yellow socks on, which seemed to almost glow in the sunshine. Then he came and sat next to me on the couch, and we started talking," said Rosa.
The couple has a lot of common interests
Christopher and Rosa quickly learned that they have a lot of interests. Their interests included art, drama, history, music, and spending time in the countryside.
They also discovered that they had previously lived barely 40 miles apart in Zambia when they were in their mid-60s. Christopher used to be a mining engineer, while Rosa's spouse was a teacher at the time.
After a few days, the pair began dating and agreed to spend the holidays in Northern Italy. This is where the concept of marriage arose. Christopher told the press that he didn't try to propose to Rosa by sitting on one knee since he wasn't sure he could stand up.
"It was a bit of a babbling proposal, but luckily Rosa laughed and said 'yes'," Christopher explained. After that, they decided on a date for their wedding, and that vacation became their honeymoon.
Christopher-Rosa's wedding took place at Bath Guildhall, with both of their families in attendance. The couple was overcome with emotion as they saw their children and grandkids for the first time in a long time, and the groom also live-streamed his wedding for family members in New Zealand.
