Bollywood actor duped of ?1.31 crore in double-returns scam, seven arrested
Bollywood actor Deepu Sharma was allegedly duped of ?1.31 crore by seven individuals who promised double returns through a fake company, KBC Agro Pvt Ltd. The scammers used false documents and fake receipts to lure Sharma and other investors into investing ?2.64 crore collectively.
The police arrested seven persons on Sunday for allegedly duping Bollywood actor Deepu Sharma and several others into investing in a bogus company that promised double returns. Sharma, who was cheated of ?1.31 crore, alleged the accused had deceived many other investors for ?2.64 crore. According to police, the 51-year-old actor first met the accused through a relative in 2017.
The relative persuaded the actor to invest a small sum initially
Priti Sonawadekar, a Mira Road resident, identified herself and her accomplices as KBC Agro Pvt Ltd officials. They persuaded her to invest a small sum in the company's stock, promising she would receive twice the investment amount within 10 months. Sharma spent a tiny sum and saw it double in 10 months.
¡°The documents that they gave me were fake receipts of the investment and later I got to know that the company was also fake,¡± said Sharma.
She recognised this when she didn't obtain her promised profit after 10 months. When Sharma demanded to know what happened to the money, the accused skirted her questioning, citing the company's losses.
Sharma checked with the company's other investors and discovered that they, too, had not received the promised money. Sharma then asked the accused to restore her initial investment money, after which the accused began ignoring her calls completely.
¡°The accused told me they had an office at Mira Road, but that they closed it down,¡± the actor said.
According to an HT report, the police conducted an initial investigation after Sharma's complaint and discovered that the accused were absconding. An FIR was lodged on Sunday at a Malad Police Station.
