Chennai YouTubers Arrested For Posting Video Of Woman Talking About Sex, Alcohol & Masturbation
Officials have booked the three on charges of obscenity in public places, insulting the modesty of women and criminal intimidation, among others. The YouTubers have been accused of public obscenity and sexual harassment.
Three YouTubers running a Tamil channel called Chennai Talks, featuring young men and women talking about sex, relationships, and sexuality, have been arrested.
The channel called ¡®Chennai Talks¡¯ contains over 200 videos, most of which are in the vox-pop format.
According to The New Indian Express, the police in Chennai arrested 31-year-old Dinesh, who is said to be running the channel since 2019, 23-year-old host Asen Badshah, and cameraman Ajay Babu (24).

The viral video in question features a woman explicitly talking about smoking, alcohol and sex and how the coronavirus pandemic made things worse when it came to indulging in it.
A police official told The New Indian Express that the action was taken following complaint filed by a woman, who claimed that she was threatened by the host and cameraman on Monday, when she questioned their activities at Elliots Beach. The officer, however, did not explain what is illegal about the video.

The trio allegedly insulted women they interviewed, by asking uncomfortable questions in public places and later uploaded selected parts that could gain engagement on social media.
"After the arrest, the three told us that these are the kind of videos that gain traction online. They said they are earning around Rs 1 lakh per month," the police told The New Indian Express.
The woman in the recently viral video, which has now been removed from the channel, has now stated that she had lodged a complaint against the YouTubers. She said that the video in which she talked about sex, alcohol and masturbation was scripted and she was paid Rs 1,500 for it.
The woman even claimed that a few portions were removed from the original video and hence missing the context of her speech; the woman said she was forced to file a complaint as the host did not adhere to the terms of her consent.

She further said that after the video went viral, the comments that poured in left her traumatized and pushed her towards depression. Many of the comments called her indecent and vile. In the YouTube comments section, many users targeted her character and even went on to insult her family.
The YouTubers have been booked under sections 294(b) (sings recites utters any obscene song ballad or words in public), 354(b) (assault or use of criminal force to women with intent to disrobe), 509 (Whoever, intending to insult the modesty of any woman, utters any words, makes any sound or gesture, or exhibits any object, intending that such word or sound), 506(ii) (criminal intimidation), and section 4 of Tamil Nadu prohibition of women harassment act (penalty for harassment to women).
Police has also confiscated the YouTubers¡¯ equipment, including a microphone, a camera and four smartphones. The accused have now been remanded to judicial custody. Efforts are being made to block the channel permanently.
