New Zealand recently lifted its social distancing rules because the country has zero coronavirus cases now. Jacinda Ardern, the country's Prime Minister said that she did a little dance when New Zealand was declared coronavirus-free. However, New Zealand is not the only country to have done so. There are others around the world that have reportedly freed themselves from the virus. Here are 8 countries apart from New Zealand that have been declared COVID-19-free.
Vatican
On June 6, The Vatican announced that there were no more Covid-19 cases in the country, as all 12 patients recovered. The Vatican spokesman, Matteo Bruni, reportedly said in a statement that the last person found to have been infected with the coronavirus in recent weeks had tested negative, reports HT.
The city state did not report any deaths because of the pandemic. On June 7, Pope Francis addressed the population for the first time in Saint Peter¡¯s Square since the health emergency began.
Fiji
Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama declared Fiji free of coronavirus in the first week of June as all the 18 reported cases of COVID-189 in the country recovered.Taking to Twitter he wrote, ¡®And even with our testing numbers climbing by the day, it¡¯s now been 45 days since we recorded our last case. With no deaths, our recovery rate is 100%. Answered prayers, hard work, and affirmation of science!¡¯
Tanzania
Earlier this week, Tanzania¡¯s president claimed that his country is free of coronavirus. However it should be noted that this claim came six weeks after the African nation stopped publicly updating virus data.
¡°Corona in our country has been removed by the powers of God,¡± President John Magufuli, reportedly declared.
Even as Tanzania¡¯s number of COVID-19 cases has been stuck at 509 for six weeks, the opposition and neighboring countries estimate that the cases could be in thousands.
Montenegro
Montenegro declared itself coronavirus free on May 24, sixty nine days after it first reported its first COVID-19 case.
It was the first European country to declare itself coronavirus free. The country reported 324 confirmed cases of COVID-19 illness and nine deaths.
Seychelles
This island nation claimed itself to be coronavirus-free as early as May 18. Its health ministry announced that there were a total of 11 COVID-19 cases, all of whom recovered; there were no deaths.
