'Dukh to hota hi hai, confidence is crushed': Manoj Tiwary calls out MS Dhoni, team management for career setbacks
Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary has recently called out cricketing icons like MS Dhoni, expressing his disappointment over being dropped from the Indian team despite strong performances. Tiwary lamented the impact on his career, emphasising that such setbacks can crush a player's confidence.
Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has been making headlines lately with his candid rants aimed at various cricketing figures, including Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir. Now, he has turned his attention to MS Dhoni, taking a subtle jab at the legendary captain for allegedly impacting his chances of being selected for the national team and for curtailing his cricketing career.
Earlier this year, veteran Bengal cricketer Manoj Tiwary expressed his intention to one day ask MS Dhoni why he was dropped from the Indian cricket team despite having strong performances.
Tiwary notably scored a century against West Indies in 2011, but was surprisingly left out of the team in the following match and didn¡¯t play for India again for eight months.
In a recent interview with Cricket Addictor, he reflected on the experience, saying, "See, it happened a long time ago. It's a matter of the past, but yes, dukh to hota hi hai (It was sad). I would lie if I said it wasn't saddening. What can we do? It's life; but it needs to move forward."
He further added, "When a player is at his peak, when his confidence is crushed, it causes a change in mindset."
This comes shortly after Tiwary also spoke about Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma, criticising the team's management for questionable decisions following India's loss in the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru.
In a candid discussion on the Cricbuzz YouTube channel, he remarked, "Sometimes I don't understand the decisions. Common sense seems to be lacking. What the coach or captain is trying to prove, is beyond my understanding. I feel like, whenever there is a new coach or new captain, they try to prove something and take such decisions."
Tiwary specifically pointed out that Rohit Sharma should have introduced star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin earlier in the match during New Zealand's fourth innings chase of 107 runs.
He stated, "I knew that one of the spinners would be under-bowled, but I never imagined that it would be Ashwin."
He also addressed Gambhir's role, stating, "Good captains also make mistakes, because a lot of things go through your mind. Here, the role of the coach to give constant guidance is very important, but I don't know why that did not happen."
