Eid ul-Adha also known as Bakrid commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. According to Islamic tradition, as Ibrathem prepared to carry out the sacrifice, God intervened and provided a ram as a substitute. This event symbolises faith, obedience, and submission to God.

The festival begins on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and lasts anywhere between two and four days. The Islamic lunar calendar is approximately 10 to 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar, so the dates of Eid ul-Adha vary each year.

During Eid ul-Adha, Muslims around the world perform special prayers, gather for communal prayers at mosques or open spaces, and listen to sermons delivered by religious leaders. The day is characterised by acts of charity, giving to the poor and needy, and visiting friends and family.
