'Equipment broken, thrown aside': After Diljit Dosanjh's Dil-Luminati concert, athletes shocked by mess in JLN stadium

If you've spent any time in Delhi¡ªor have friends who live there¡ªchances are your social media feeds were filled with posts about Diljit Dosanjh's electrifying "Dil-Luminati" concert this past weekend at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. But as the stadium transitioned back to its usual role where athletes train, a less glamorous scene emerged: many sportspeople returned to find the venue in a disheartening state, sparking frustration over its condition.

Indian athletes were left disheartened following the recent two-day Diljit Dosanjh concert, "Dil-Luminati," held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The concert was organised by Ripple Effect Studios and Saregama India, with ticketing managed by Zomato Live.

Beant Singh, a former youth Asian gold medalist, shared a video on Instagram showing the stadium's post-concert state, expressing his disappointment: "This is where athletes train but here people had alcohol and partied. For this, the stadium was closed off until yesterday. Athletics equipment has been broken and thrown to the side."

The once-pristine training grounds were left littered with trash¡ªrotten food, drink cans, alcohol bottles, and sections of the track soaked and stained.

Renting the stadium for non-sporting events costs around Rs 4,50,000 per day, and reports indicate that the venue will be cleared of debris by November 1st, when the Diljeet Dosnjh concert organisers' rental term ends.

Singh noted how this has disrupted training, especially for young athletes preparing for their Junior National Championships, now just 20-25 days away.

"Jo nuksan hua hai bacho ka vo to do bache khud paise ikatthe krke samaan leke aate hain prctc k liye," he wrote on Instagram, highlighting the financial strain on aspiring athletes.

Another athlete, speaking anonymously to Sportstar, added, "Everyone wants pictures with athletes when they win medals, but no one cares if they have the space to train."

In the comments, many agreed with him.

One user wrote, "I wish people would come to watch sports with this kind of excitement¡ªthis is just nonsense."

Another rightly said, "Well it's hard to put a finger on a particular thing which failed us all, this is collective failure of the Authority, organizer, performer and not to forget the audience (we all)."
