Last weekend, hardly anyone knew who the chairman of L&T was. But by the end of the week, he became a household name, and not in the way he probably imagined! Following in the footsteps of Narayan Murthy (the Infosys co-founder who had infamously said that employees should clock in 70 hours of work every week), he's now earned the title of the internet's latest ¡ª and most talked-about ¡ª sensation, with people making sure this won't be forgotten anytime soon!

What did L&T Chairman SN Subrahmanyan say?
During a recent interaction with employees, SN Subrahmanyan, the Chairman of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), had advocated for a demanding 90-hour workweek, which quickly sparked controversy.
L&T Chairman says ¡° he regrets he¡¯s not able to make us work on Sunday and Sunday¡¯s, 90hrs a week¡± in a response to his employee remarks
by inIndiaCareers
"What do you do sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife?," the 64-year-old Subrahmanyan had asked.
His comments were soon overshadowed by the revelation of his impressive salary package of Rs 51.05 crore for the fiscal year 2023-24, which was 534.57 times higher than the median salary of L&T's workforce.
In response to the backlash, L&T defended Subrahmanyan's statement, explaining that the 90-hour workweek aligns with the company's broader goal of contributing to nation-building.
"We believe this is India's decade, a time demanding collective dedication and effort to drive progress and realize our shared vision of becoming a developed nation. The chairman¡¯s remarks reflect this larger ambition," the statement said.
Deepika Padukone, Harsh Goenka speak out
Since his statement, several prominent figures have criticised him, including actor Deepika Padukone, a vocal advocate for mental health, who expressed disbelief, stating, "It's shocking to see people in high positions say such things. #MentalHealthMatters."
Harsh Goenka, chairman of RPG Group, also weighed in, emphasising that mental health is not a luxury but a vital necessity.
90 hours a week? Why not rename Sunday to ¡®Sun-duty¡¯ and make ¡®day off¡¯ a mythical concept! Working hard and smart is what I believe in, but turning life into a perpetual office shift? That¡¯s a recipe for burnout, not success. Work-life balance isn¡¯t optional, it¡¯s essential.¡ pic.twitter.com/P5MwlWjfrk
