After a fierce and unexpected round of matches in Qatar, football fans from across the globe are biting down on their nails in anticipation of the upcoming quarterfinals. Check out my predictions, match by match, and buckle your seatbelt because it¡¯s going to be a bumpy ride.
Croatia vs. Brazil (Dec. 9)
As heartbreaking as it might be for the Croatian fans, the team does not seem to be making it to the semi-finals in the tournament. The obvious Three of Swords was enough to tell anyone that the team would have to face heartbreak in the match, possibly losing. The accompanying cards seem to be pointing towards the rift between the team members, where some intend to follow their gut throughout the match while others have a more rigid strategy. This difference in intentions will perhaps lead to a lost battle.
The prediction was supported by Brazil¡¯s spread for the match. Seeing as the team got not only the Four of Wands but also the Ace of Cups by their side, I have no qualms about announcing their early win. The Page of Cups tells me that the team is going into this match with nothing but pure passion in mind, and might I add, they are pretty confident.
Netherlands vs. Argentina (Dec 9)
The spread of the Netherlands was certainly a perilous puzzle. The Queen of Swords and the Page of Swords point towards an obvious leaning towards keeping the game strategic and being level-headed throughout it all. Given that The Hangedman appeared at the end of the spread, I believe the pressure will be higher than ever and the game will be extended to a late climax, ending in a disappointing peak for the Netherlands team.
Argentina¡¯s spread could not have been clearer. It feels like the cards are screaming at me with joy. All three major arcana¡ªthe Wheel of Fortune, the Sun, and the Lovers¡ªpopped out for the Lionel Messi-led team, directing the point into Argentina¡¯s bag swiftly. Not only do the cards say that the South American country will triumph in the match, but it will also prove to be an important and beneficial match for Argentina.
Morocco vs. Portugal (Dec 10)
As a CR7 fan, I would rather be in denial. Morocco¡¯s prediction is clear as day, and it points towards a celebration, which I can only interpret as a win. The Queen of Pentacles and the High Priestess suggest that the Moroccan team will focus on their instincts with a pinch of stable thinking going on in the background. Surrounded by these great cards is the Four of Wands, which is all about celebrations and wish fulfillment.
To be honest, the spread for Portugal does not seem promising at all. The Hangedman has made yet another appearance, depicting the possible regret the team will feel. Accompanying it is the Star card, which does bring in a sliver of hope for Cristiano Ronaldo¡¯s team, but from the looks of it, I wouldn¡¯t bet on the team¡¯s win this time around. The appearance of the Devil Card completes the spread and likely represents the heightened nerves of fans around the world throughout the match. However, the star card leaves a door open for last-minute miracles.
England vs. France (Dec 10)
England's forecast is complicated. The cards are not exactly explicit in their deduction of the situation, which makes me wonder if the match could end up in a tie, taking the game into a last-minute penalty shootout. As per the cards, the Five of Cups and the Queen of Cups, the emotional fixation of the team players might get in the way of their winning strike. However, the bright colours of The Magician card light up a flame of hope, saying the country might just make it; they certainly have the zeal for it.
The Devil card, like Portugal's spread, has reappeared. This time it sits in the middle of the Six of Swords and the Hermit, which points towards the team¡¯s possible pessimistic outlook throughout the game. I would say France too has a chance of winning, but their attitude and lack of push between team members might just end up being the last thread that pushes them out of the World Cup.
