A junior investment banker who made history at the ongoing Paris Olympics by capturing the United States' first rowing gold has proposed to his girlfriend in the City of Love.

"Lainey Olivia Duncan, you are the love of my life," the investment analyst and Olympic champion said as he dropped to his knee in front of Duncan, who appeared surprised by the proposal. Why the yellow roses?
Dozens of people held bouquets of yellow roses to cheer on the couple. The proposal included more than 2,700 roses, one for every day the pair spent together.

Best explained the rationale for the roses, saying, "Each yellow rose reflects a day you and I have spent together. Obviously, we communicated using Snapchat. Our streak is currently 2,738. So there are 2,738 yellow roses on Snapchat. "Our love has truly been immortalized."
