'I'm The First, Won't Be The Last': Kamala Harris Dedicates Victory To Women Who Fought For Equality
She has broken all barriers and proved to the world that regardless of the colour of your skin or gender, one can achieve their dreams if they work hard towards fulfilling them. She is an inspiration to each and every woman out there who has been discriminated against.
It is a proud moment for women, especially women of colour, as Kamala Harris has made history by becoming the first Black person and the first Indian-American to become the Vice President of the United States.
For those who do not know, Harris was also the first woman to be the state attorney general, along with being the first person with an African or Indian American background.
She has broken multiple barriers and achieved what might've seemed impossible to so many people, inspiring millions across the world.
During her first address to the nation as Vice President-Elect, Harris said, "While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last¡ªbecause every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities."
Talking about women and their struggles in this world, she said, "I¡¯m thinking about her (her mother) and about the generations of women ¡ª Black women, Asian, White, Latina, Native American women who throughout our nation¡¯s history have paved the way for this moment tonight."

The 57-year-old added, "Women who fought and sacrificed so much for equality, liberty and justice for all, including the Black women, who are often, too often overlooked, but so often prove that they are the backbone of our democracy."
She also said, "Tonight, I reflect on their struggle, their determination and the strength of their vision ¡ª to see what can be, unburdened by what has been. And I stand on their shoulders. And what a testament it is to Joe¡¯s character that he had the audacity to break one of the most substantial barriers that exists in our country and select a woman as his vice president."
