Kolkata Mall Denies Space For Breastfeeding Saying It's A 'Home Chore', People Set Them Straight
A Facebook user Trisha Ghosh Moitra went to South City Mall in Kolkata and asked for basic amenities for babies like a changing room and a private space for breastfeeding. The way the not-so-good people of the mall responded was appalling and enraging.
Every new mother needs to relax and chill and she should be able to do whatever she wants while caring for her newborn baby, which isn't really the world's easiest job.

A Facebook user, Trisha Ghosh Moitra went to South City Mall in Kolkata and asked for basic amenities for babies like a changing room and a private space for breastfeeding. The way the not-so-good people of the mall responded, was appalling and enraging to say the least.
What is so wrong with breastfeeding a baby? It is beyong horrifying that even in 2018 we are battling a taboo, which shouldn't be one in the first place. Apparently, feeding a baby in the public place is compromising the privacy of other people.
We have a question about that: How? How is it compromising anyone's privacy at all?
Here's what Trisha had to say about it:
"Hi, friends,
As some of you have noticed I have posted about @southcitymall Kolkata not having basic amenities for kids i.e baby room, feeding zone etc. which is there for any shopping mall. They are asking toilets to be used for feeding, etc. Please read the response they have given for our basic request. I am enraged. I am speechless with anger. Please read the screenshot and comment. The insensitivity seeping through is ridiculous. Baby's are not home chores, and yes they need to be fed whenever they want to survive. No woman wants their freaking boobs to hang out in public for display, it's not a fashion choice ..it's the most basic human need. Please share this post. My humble request to all of you. I tweeting the same. A big thank you to Abhilasha, for taking the first step to point out the discrimination and taking this to the south city authorities. Inspired by you, I will continue my crusade. We need more people like you."

Unbelievable! Shame on South City Mall!#SouthCityMall #Kolkata have been rude to a mother for breastfeeding her child and asked her to go to toilet and do and said that the Mall is not a place to do such a thing.#SouthCityMall #Kolkata pic.twitter.com/KakrNMyyP6

#southcitymall #kolkata should be ashamed of yourself. Not for not having a baby room but for giving such cheap answers.

#SouthCityMall, whoever wrote the comment on your behalf needs to be reminded that he/she must have had mother¡¯s milk. This is an absolute disgrace and you guys must immediately apologize to the young mother. It¡¯s the least you can do. pic.twitter.com/bos7mzPTqc

Shame on you authorities of South City Mall, Kolkata. Is baby's hunger is one of home chores?

After reading Trisha's experience on Facebook, a lady posted the experience of another woman on Twitter:
While the world stands up and salutes #breastfeeding moms, swanky malls in Kolkata doesnt allow new mom Abhilasha Paul access to feeding zone. She was suggested feed in toilet. Is this what moms and babies have access too! @SouthCityMall @laaduuuuu @SHEROESIndia @myBabyChakra

I gets worse.
Someone suggested that she must be enjoying all the 'attention'. What they need to realise is that this is not about just one person or incident, it's about the perception of an issue much bigger than that. Why should breastfeeding moms feel ashamed of feeding their kids?
Breastfeeding is a natural process - something a mother has to do in order to keep her child healthy. People who cannot grasp this deserve to be schooled.
FYI - Infants don't really have a fixed eating schedule, so no, moms cannot 'plan' their breastfeeding accordingly.
