After striking gold, the estate beat its own record of ?75,000 per kg of the Manohari Gold tea set in 2020. The tea derives its name from the golden hue that it yields when brewed, The Hindu reported.
The Manohari Gold Tea is produced by the Manohari Tea Estate in eastern Assam¡¯s Dibrugarh. It is being claimed that this is the highest price ever paid for tea in a public auction.
The Gold Tea was bought by Saurav Tea Traders with the highest bid of
?99,999
per kilogram, as per Shillong Times.
"The Manohari gold is a very special tea. The producer of making this tea is different. Apart from CTC tea, we have started making different types of tea like white tea, green tea, yellow tea. At Guwahati Tea Auction Centre, Manohari was sold at ?1 lakh per kg," Bidyananda Barkakoty, Adviser, North Eastern Tea Association (NETA), was quoted as saying by ANI.

"There is a demand for a special tea, white tea, oolong tea, green tea, yellow tea so we are planning to increase the production of such tea. We will also be getting more money from this and small farmers will be benefitted from this," he added.
Manohari group operates three estates and produces about 25 lakh kg of tea annually. But when it comes to handmade orthodox tea, it makes only about 5 kg, The Hindu reported.
Manohari Gold is not new to creating records, In 2018, a kg sold for ?39,001 to become the most expensive tea sold in any auction centre in the country. In 2019, the same variety fetched ?50,000 per kg.
In addition to Manohari, the Golden Butterfly Tea of Dikom Tea Estate was sold at Rs 75,000 in 2019, as per India Today.
It should be noted that Assam is one of the world¡¯s largest tea-growing regions as the industry continued to grow for 200 years now and Assam tea is very famous in the world.
According to the reports, around 17.41 crore kg tea was sold at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre in 2016-17 and the figure grew up to 18.44 crore kg in 2017-18, 18.29 crore kg in 2018-19 and 16.22 crore kg in 2019-20.
