Did You Know The Met Gala 2023 Carpet Was Woven By Indian Artisans From Kerala?
Sivan Santhosh and Nimisha Srinivas of the Kerala-based design studio Neytt by Extraweave were in charge of this enormous task. The carpet was created in line with the vision of Japanese architect Tadao Ando, and it took the artisans a whopping 60 days to complete the carpet.
The Met Gala 2023, one of the most-awaited and talked-about events in the fashion world, took place Monday at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. A host of stars from around the globe graced the red carpet for the fundraiser event, including Indian celebrities Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Alia Bhatt.

But many may not know that the Met Gala carpet, with its mesmerizing swirls of red and blue, was woven by artisans from the southern Indian state of Kerala.
Sivan Santhosh and Nimisha Srinivas of the Kerala-based design studio Neytt by Extraweave were in charge of this enormous task.
The carpet was created in line with the vision of Japanese architect Tadao Ando, and it took the artisans a whopping 60 days to complete the carpet.
The carpet, made from sisal fibers, was painted by designers in the United States.
The designers were pleased to post pictures of several celebrities posing on the carpet they created on their Instagram accounts to celebrate their success.

The design house, Neytt by Extraweave, expressed their pride in providing the carpet for the Met Gala for the second time in a row through their official Instagram page.
Along with a picture of the stunning carpet at the gala, they shared several stories highlighting their accomplishment and the effort put into creating the carpet. It took a total of 60 days for the artisans from Kerala to weave the swirls of red and blue sisal fibers into the carpet that designers painted in the United States.
The design house is based in Alappuzha and is led by Sivan Santhosh and Nimisha Srinivas.
The event also saw some leading celebrities, such as Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Doja Cat (who debuted at the fundraiser event), Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Taylor Swift.
The theme for the Met Gala 2023 was dedicated to Karl Lagerfeld, the late designer who was also the creative director of Chanel. It was a momentous occasion for the Kerala-based artisans, who got to showcase their skills and craftsmanship to the world.
