Story of Maa Brahmacharini
Maa Brahmacharini is one of the unmarried forms of Maa Durga. She is endowed with a Kamandal and a Japa mala in the left and right hands. Dressed in a white saree, Brahmacharini Maa is believed to have appeared in this avatar to perform intense penance (Tapasya) to please Lord Shiva, win his attention, and marry him.
Interestingly, this avatar of the Goddess governs Mangal (Mars), the planet that bestows good fortunes. Therefore, devotees worship her to negate the ill effects of Mangal from their natal chart.
