Odisha Man Who Returned Home Was Asked To Quarantine, Spent 7 Days In Toilet

People travelling to their hometowns from other states are being told to quarantine themselves for a fortnight in order to ensure that they do not have COVID-19 which could put their family members or others around them at risk of getting infected.

The same was the case for a man who returned from Tamil Nadu to his home in Odisha and was placed under seven days of quarantine in a government-run centre.

However, after seven days, the 28-year-old was told to leave the government-run temporary medical camp at Sudukanthi School and quarantine for the next seven days at home.

Since he didn't have enough space at home to quarantine himself, Manas Patra reportedly requested authorities for an extension of stay at the quarantine centre in Jagatsinghpur district. He informed the centre about his situation and how his family of six members makes it impossible for him to have enough space to himself for the quarantine process.

However, his request was turned down by the authorities, reported IANS.

Patra resorted to quarantining himself inside a toilet for seven days. He took shelter in a 'Swachh Bharat' toilet near his house and remained there for the completion of seven days to make sure his family is safe.

He was inside the newly-built toilet from June 9 to June 15.

Lalatendu Parida, Sarpanch of Jamugaon gram panchayat said Patra was discharged from the TMC as he was asymptomatic. The state government has made it mandatory that all returnees in rural areas will undergo seven days of institutional quarantine which will be followed by asymptomatic people being discharged after a period of seven days who will then continue the quarantine at home for the remaining days.
