Performance Artist In US Protests Against Lockdown Rules, Wears Bikini Made Of Face Masks
Click here to find out about the performance artist who wore a bikini made of surgical face masks to protest lockdown rules.
Just when you thought you have seen almost every kind of protest against the coronavirus lockdown in America, someone or the other surprises you.
A performance artist who reportedly believes that coronavirus is a hoax protested against lockdown restrictions outside of a Trader Joe's in Los Angeles by wearing a makeshift bikini fashioned from blue surgical masks.
She not only wore the ¡®mask bikini¡¯ but also put on a mask on her eyes and around her feet ankles, like some sort of jewellery.
DaVida Sal shared the images of herself posing outside the local grocery store, calling the image a performance piece named 'The New AbNormal'.
The covering of the eyes with the mask is supposed to symbolise how people are 'blindly obeying' lockdown measures. While only the private parts of her body are covered in mask, her mouth and nose are categorically exposed.
DaVida apparently brought her own groceries to the store for the stunt, as without the mask covering her face, she wouldn't have been allowed inside to shop. Reportedly Trader Joe's doesn't carry Scott toilet paper.
In the full blown photo shoot she seems to change the position of the surgical masks. She has also accessorised ¡®the look¡¯ with hoop earrings and high heels.
The Facebook caption accompanying the photos read, 'Abnormal Becoming the New Normal. She blindly obeyed. If the MASKS work, WHY the 6 feet? If the 6 feet works, WHY the Masks? If BOTH work, WHY the LOCKDOWN? Now more than ever we must express ourselves with the brilliance we were created to be.¡¯
New York Post reports that the artist subscribes to the theory that coronavirus is a hoax created to erode freedoms of people and keep them apart.
She also tweeted, 'The World Health Organization, Bill Gates and Centers for Disease Control now recommend that people wear blindfolds so they can¡¯t see what¡¯s really going on. OBEY NOW!!!'
In another post she wrote: 'I have turned my fears into my power, because I dared to cross the self imposed imaginary wall of fear and insecurities and I made it to the other side, realizing that the other side was brighter and filled with endless possibilities.'
Why?? I don¡¯t even know where to begin with this but wasting 8 masks for this bs when healthcare workers are dying trying to save #COVID patients, w/o proper PPE is a pretty selfish move.#COVIDIOT #SundayThoughts #memorialdayweekend2020 #AtKarensGarageSale pic.twitter.com/lJItyPSlXG

Not everyone was impressed by the stunt and called out the artist¡¯s privilege. One user commented, 'Being slightly inconvenienced isn't the same as systematic oppression. EVERYONE needs to stay home for the safety of the public.'
Nothing stresses the importance of staying home more. If a few days of minor inconvenience mean thousands of lives could be saved, there should be no questioning of rules.
