Study Claims India's Response To COVID-19 More Swift Than US, Italy, Germany
According to Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Tracker, a study of the responses of countries to the coronavirus outbreak show reveals that India was far ahead of some developed countries in unveiling measures.
The data collected measures how quickly the governments responded and reacted as COVID-19 spread around the world.
India reportedly fared better than the United States, Germany, Italy, Spain, South Korea and Britain on the OxCGRT Index.
The data is based on 11 indicators such as government¡¯s efficiency in cancelling public events, closing down schools, launching public information campaign, closing public transport, curbs on internal travel and international travel, monetary measures, fiscal measures, investment in healthcare, investment in vaccines, testing policy and contact tracing.
"Our index cannot, of course, tell the full story, but we believe the data we have collected can help decision-makers and public health professionals examine the robustness of government responses and provide the first step into understanding exactly what measures have been effective in certain contexts, and why,¡± Thomas Hale, Associate Professor of Global Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government who led the project, reportedly said.
India¡¯s 21-day lockdown could have possibly come in at a good time and helped the country fare better when it came to curbing the spread of coronavirus.
