This Rs 10 lakh cocktail with 150 diamonds has had only one customer so far - what you need to know
What makes the drink ultra luxe is the necklace with 150 diamonds set in 14-karat gold, which one can't consume but can definitely hold. Interestingly, it has seen only one customer so far, a man who ordered it for his wife.
Imagine gulping down a drink that costs 10 times more than your annual rent. Unbelievable right? Well, one bar in the U.S. saw it as no big deal when it poured a whopping $13,000 cocktail for one very lucky customer. A restaurant in Chicago, U.S., called Adalina recently dished out the Marrow Martini, which cost a whopping $13,000. The drink comes with a diamond necklace with 150 diamonds set in 14-karat gold. Does it get more luxe than this?
Why is the cocktail so expensive?
The Marrow Martini as the drink has been named is the brainchild of Colin Hofer who was honoured with the title of sommelier of the year in 2022 by Michelin Guide. The cocktail worth an eye-watering $13,000 (Rs 10 lakh roughly) is currently available at Adalina restaurant on State Street in Chicago.
But what probably makes the drink uber luxe is the diamond necklace it comes with. The ladies are going to love this. The drink, itself a sight to see, comes with a necklace packed with 150 diamonds set in 14-karat gold. A jewellery house called Marrow Fine is the one that provided this shiny companion for the cocktail.
Marrow Fine founder Jillian Sassone told CBS News, "The client that purchased the martini wanted to do something special and surprise his wife."
"They both love Marrow Fine, and the martini was the perfect gift. They were the first to order the martini," also adding this drink and the diamond necklace will "make for a few very memorable evenings."
How is the drink made?
The ingredients of this drink give it its Mexican roots. Now, Mezcal is a type of drink made using an agave plant, found mostly in Mexico. This particular cocktail is made of Clase Azul Mezcal, a type of handmade mezcal, also found in Mexico, according to CBS News. Other ingredients include clarified heirloom tomato water and lemon-basil olive oil.
Literally adding smoke to the drink, and giving it that mysterious edge is the smoke-filled cloche it is presented in. "This step not only emphasises the uniqueness of the drink but also amplifies the Mezcal's natural smokiness, turning it into something truly unforgettable," Hofer told the news outlet.
