In a highly publicized civil case, a federal jury in Manhattan has found former President Donald Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation against writer E. Jean Carroll.
Carroll had accused Trump of raping her in the mid-1990s in a department store dressing room.
Six men and three women on the federal jury found Mr. Trump, aged 76, responsible for defaming Ms. Carroll on his Truth Social website in October when he labeled her case as "a complete con job" and "a hoax and a lie."
Although the jury did not find Trump guilty of rape, they did find him liable for the civil charges of sexual abuse and defamation.
As a result, the jury awarded $2 million to Carroll for battery and $3 million for defamation.

Two other women testified that Trump assaulted them during the two-week trial. Trump's legal team offered no defense, and the jury delivered unanimous verdicts after deliberating for just over 2? hours.
Trump is expected to appeal the verdict.
The decision comes just before his scheduled appearance on CNN's town hall and amid other lawsuits, indictments, and investigations he faces. Carroll left the Manhattan courtroom with her attorneys, but Trump has not yet issued a statement on the verdict.
Carroll, accompanied by her lawyers, departed from the Manhattan courthouse with a smile on her face, choosing not to make any statements to the media.
