Trump Will Halt Funding For WHO Over 'Covering Up Spread Of Coronavirus', Being 'China Centric'
US will put a hold back funding to the World Health Organisation for 60 to 90 days while they review the WHOs involvement. The WHOs 2018-2019 budget was about $6 billion with US being the biggest donor of all countries it donated $400 million to the organisation last year.
US President Trump has not shied away from expressing his unhappiness with WHO¡¯s ¡®response¡¯ to coronavirus; in fact he has been very claiming that WHO¡¯s response towards China has been very light.
Now the POTUS has announced that U.S will put a hold back funding to the World Health Organisation for 60 to 90 days while they review the WHO¡¯s involvement. In his speech Trump accused the WHO of "severely mismanaging and covering up.¡±
The WHO's 2018-2019 budget was about $6 billion, with U.S being the biggest donor of all countries; it donated $400 million to the organisation last year. "As the organisation's leading sponsor, the United States has a duty to insist on full accountability. One of the most dangerous and costly decisions from the WHO was its disastrous decision to oppose travel restrictions from China and other nations,¡± Trump said.
These are some of Trump¡¯s complaints with the WHO- that it failed, ¡°adequately obtain, vet, and share information in a timely and transparent fashion. ... The WHO failed in this basic duty and must be held accountable."
Trump also believes that the WHO ¡°failed to investigate credible reports from sources in Wuhan that conflicted directly with the Chinese government¡¯s official accounts. There was credible information to suspect human-to-human transmission in December 2019, which should have spurred the WHO to investigate."
A cut in WHO¡¯s funding at a time of a global pandemic might prove to be a blow to the organisation - that too from its biggest contributor.
