Father Watches Baby's Delivery On Zoom As He Couldn't Be With His Wife Due To Social Distancing
Stephanie Gandelman wanted her husband Marty Gandelman to be by her side during the delivery of their baby and hold her hand while she was in labor. But the hospital where she was admitted introduced a ban on the presence of spouses in delivery rooms. Stephanie had to settle for the next best option - a live feed of the delivery.
A lot of people across the world are being forced to live away from their families and loved ones because of the lockdown and/or social distancing rules.
This is exactly what happened with a man in the US, who watched his baby being delivered, on Zoom. Social distancing and quarantine rules barred him from being at his wife's bedside during labour.
Stephanie wanted her husband Marty Gandelman to be by her side during the delivery of their baby and hold her hand while she was in labor. But the hospital where she was admitted introduced a ban on the presence of spouses in delivery rooms, following which Stephanie had to settle for the next best option - a live feed of the delivery.
Things went fine as Stephanie delivered her first child, Jake, at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, New York.
According to the Metro UK Stephanie said she thought of the camera as Marty during labour, and that is what comforted her while she was delivering the baby. The video of the same is going viral on the Internet.
¡°When we heard the news that Marty couldn¡¯t be in the room with me we were both really sad and it was hard to take. But I was still happy I was able to go to the hospital as normal and when it sunk in, all we cared about was making sure the baby would be ok and cared for properly,¡± Metro UK quoted Stephanie as saying.
She further said, ¡°When I was in labor I just thought of the camera as Marty, rather than a camera. It didn¡¯t really change anything for me and it was comforting to know he was there.¡±
Marty on his part said that the fact he could not physically be there with his wife was upsetting, but he was content seeing the doctors tend to his wife. "When I saw how many doctors were there on Zoom I knew she was safe, which helped. ¡®But not being there to hug and kiss Jake right away was tough, of course," he reportedly said.
According to the report, the couple had been trying to conceive for over three years. They had three unfortunate miscarriages. Stephanie managed to get preganant last year in July after her fourth round of IVF treatment.
Here is wishing a healthy life to the couple and their new born.
