If Donald Trump wins next month's election, he would become the oldest president ever elected in U.S. history. With heightened scrutiny surrounding his health, especially as he continues to withhold updates on his physical and mental well-being, a viral video has emerged adding fuel to the conversation. During a recent interview with Bloomberg Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait at the Economic Club of Chicago, Donald Trump made headlines by stating that "only stupid people" appoint older judges to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Reflecting on his own judicial appointments, he remarked, "It's amazing, because I got three in four years," referring to his selections of Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett as SC judges.
Trump continued, "You know, you don't put old in, because they're there for two years or three years, right?"
In response, Micklethwait pointed out, "You're a 78-year-old man running for president," but Trump sidestepped the comment, emphasising, "So, I got three. A lot of presidents get none, I got three. And, uh, I think they've been three great choices too, by the way."
As the oldest major-party nominee in U.S. history, Trump has faced increasing scrutiny over his physical and mental fitness for office.
A recent Marquette Law School poll revealed that 61% of registered voters believe Trump is "too old to be president," compared to just 13% who feel the same about Vice President Kamala Harris.
Harris has also questioned why Trump's staff appears eager to keep his medical records under wraps: "One must question: Are they afraid that people will see that he is too weak and unstable to lead America? Is that what's going on?"
