A village woman in the Etah district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday saved several lives when she noticed that there was significant damage to a train track. According to reports, a woman named Omwati spotted a big crack in the railway track.
Wanting to save the train from meeting with an accident due to the broken railway track, Omwati immediately took off her red coloured saree and used sticks from a nearby tree to put it on the railway track to signal the incoming train of danger ahead.
The incident reportedly took place near Guleria village in the Avagarh block of Etah district. A passenger train from Etah to Tundla was on its way but the driver spotted the red-coloured cloth and applied the brakes sensing danger.
The track was then repaired and the train set off on its onward journey an hour later.
Omwati received plenty of praise from the locals for her sharp presence of mind and for saving the lives of so many people.
The incident was shared by a UP cop named Sachin Kaushik on Twitter who saluted Omwati for her efforts.
