Woman Rides 1,800 Km From Mumbai To Jamshedpur On A Scooter, To See Her Family

The ongoing Coronvirus-induced lockdown has changed the lives of millions of people across the world and left a bunch of them stranded. One such case is of a woman who was working in Mumbai, away from her family living in Jamshedpur.

The woman, Sonia Das, lost her job and was evicted out of her rented accommodation. So she got onto a scooter with her friend Sabio Bano, and both women rode all the way to Jamshedpur which is 1,800 km away. She then saw her family from a distance before being taken to a quarantine centre.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, Sonia saw her son and other family members who were standing on a balcony. She said, "The administration here got my son here and arranged my meeting with him after I tested negative for coronavirus today."

Samples for coronavirus tests were taken from both the women as they exhibited symptoms of fever and cough and cold with minor breathing difficulties. They were then moved to home quarantine for 14 days and the authorities provided dry ration to them.

It took the women four days on the highway to get to their destination. During their journey, they crossed several coronavirus-affected states and the duo stopped at 10 petrol filling stations and three dhabas.

Sonia's husband suffers from a heart condition and has been unemployed for the last two years. So, the responsibility of managing daily expenses is solely hers. She said, "I had gone to Mumbai in February for such a job and was supposed to return on March 20 but got stuck there as lockdown came into effect."
