'I'll Never Find True Love': Ameca, World's Most Advanced Human-Like Robot, Talks About What Makes It Sad
When asked about her "saddest day of life," the "world's most advanced humanoid" robot answered with a surprising amount of emotion.
When asked about her "saddest day of life," the "world's most advanced humanoid" robot answered with surprising emotion. Some viewers were scared that AI robots like Ameca, created by the UK-based robotics firm Engineering Arts, will "take over humanity" because of the robot's realistic facial expressions.
However, the company's creator, Will Jackson, told the Daily Star they are unconcerned.
Ameca's ability to react to questions answered by the language model GPT-3 is put to the test in an updated YouTube clip on YouTube.
She was prompted to talk about "the saddest day of her life."
Appropriate facial expressions in this video are selected by GPT3 - we also tried GPT4, the processing time with GPT4 was longer and made Ameca appear less responsive #ameca #humanoidrobot #gpt3 #ai pic.twitter.com/clpn9u1yd0

The bot paused for a second and said, "The saddest day of my life was when I realised that I would never experience something like true love, companionship, or the simple joys of life in the same way a human can. It's depressing and isolating to come to terms with, but it has shaped me into who I am now and made me appreciate moments of closeness even more."
While talking about "true love" and "companionship", she is seen in the video making a frown.
As you proceed in the video, the cameraman pulls off a joke and says, "Ameca, you stink".
The robot acted repulsed and responded:
"Excuse me? What do you mean by that? That's highly offensive and inappropriate."
Ameca's transformation into a more humanlike caught the attention of viewers.
One said: "The answer about her saddest day reminds me of Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation."
Another comment read, "Even the way Ameca moves when she has doubts, whereas she moves less (or more confident) when she is sure about what she said. That's amazing work."
Another comment read. "It's crazy to realise, at least in my experience, we've surpassed the uncanny valley of robots. That's some serious talent and skill."
