The company released a teaser video for the same, but there is no guarantee as to when the agentic search engine is going to be released or what features it will power.
Perplexity's AI-powered search to gain dominance on Google
According to Similarweb data from January 2025, Google Chrome is the undisputed leader in the category of web browsers. Google Chrome has a market share of 63.55 per cent, second comes Apple's Safari, whose market share stands at 21.81 per cent and third comes Microsoft's Edge, with a 5.62 per cent market share.

Meanwhile, Perplexity's AI-powered search is among those alternatives that are trying to take on Google's dominance in the search engine market.
By going to launch the Comet browser, Srinivasan is aiming to do the same thing, with a more crowded market and one where Google's dominance is more stabilised.

The CEO of Perplexity, Aravind Srinivas, seems to be aware of the scale of challenges he faces in entering the browser industry. In one of his posts on X (formerly called Twitter), he shared a chart of Google Chrome taking over Internet Explorer. He talked about the importance of following the 'full process.'
