In a shocking incident, a woman who lives in the North West province of South Africa woke up with a bug bite, thinking she had a relatively harmless mosquito bite, but within two days, her health deteriorated, and she was forced to have her fingers and toes amputated.
The woman, identified as Cathrine Abbot-Coetzee, believed that she had a harmless mosquito bite, but within two days, her health started deteriorating, and she fainted. Following this, she was rushed to the hospital for a checkup.
According to The Sun UK, the small bite caused deadly complications, as Catherine's organs started to fail, causing dry gangrene.
What is dry gangrene?
It is a condition where the tissue becomes dry and shrinks because of a lack of blood flow, and parts of the body turn black or shade purple or blue.
The side effect of the bug bite turned so deadly that most of her fingers and toes were reduced to 'short black stumps' four months after the bite. Suffering the side effects, Cathrine got nine toes and seven fingers amputated.
However, the woman survived the deadly condition and was given prosthetics for her fingers and shoe inserts for her. One bug bite changed her whole life forever, and this also declined Cathrine¡¯s mental health along with her physical health.
