Time Traveller? Internet Thinks This 150-YO Painting Shows A Woman Walking With An iPhone
People on the internet have found a 150-year-old painting by artist Ferdinand George Waldm¨¹ller which shows a time traveller holding an iPhone.
The invention of the iPhone in 2007 may have changed the world forever, but if recent claims are anything to go by, the apple device may have existed a century ago.
150-year-old painting appears to show a woman walking with an iPhone
A painting has come to light that is baffling everyone. In a painting from 1860, a woman can be seen holding what people claim is the popular Apple device. This painting sparked many theories on time travel.
The artwork is named 'The Expected One' and was painted by Ferdinand George Waldm¨¹ller.
The piece shows a woman walking through the countryside while apparently clutching an iPhone in her hands.
Her gaze is glued to the object in her hands, while a lovestruck man can be seen in a corner waiting to hand her a pink flower.
This painting is currently on display at the Neue Pinakothek in Munich, Germany, alongside other pieces from the era. A retired local Glasgow Government officer named Peter Russell noticed this artwork while visiting the gallery with his partner. He noticed the woman holding the 'phone' and did a double-take.
Russell told Vice, "What strikes me most is how much a change in technology has changed the interpretation of the painting, and in a way has leveraged its entire context."
He said, "The big change is that in 1850 or 1860, every single viewer would have identified the item that the girl is absorbed in as a hymnal or prayer book. Today, no one could fail to see the resemblance to the scene of a teenage girl absorbed in social media on their smartphone."
Art agency CEO reveals the truth
However, Gerald Weinpolter, the CEO of the art agency austrian-paintings.at, has denied all claims that the woman is holding an iPhone in her hands.
He said that the woman is reading a prayer book while walking through the countryside, and not browsing social media.
People on Twitter were not convinced that it was a prayer book, claiming the famous phone definitely existed during that time and that the woman in the painting was undeniably a time traveller.
One user said, "What a silly post, anyone can tell that that's a Samsung."
"Taking selfies even back then, smh," joked a second while a third wrote: "No, that's a Nokia 3310."
Quite clearly a Nokia, probably still has some charge left
