Towards the end an ironic statement reads that with ¡®no demand¡¯, groom seeks a ¡®fair, beautiful, tall, slim bride¡¯. Last line of the matrimonial ad reads, ¡®the bride must not be addicted to social media¡¯.
It is no revelation that matrimonial ads are extremely sexist with almost every ad wanting a potential bride to be ¡®tall, slim and fair¡¯.
While these remain the basics of almost all matrimonial ads, with changing world even some of the criterias for eligible brides is also changing.
An ¡®out of ordinary¡¯ ad asking for a bride ¡®not addicted to social media¡¯ is going viral on social media.
A newspaper clip of a matrimonial ad was posted on Twitter by an IAS officer named Nitin Sangwan. Ad is by a ¡®non- addicted¡¯ advocate and researcher. The ad makes sure to mention that the man¡¯s family has a ¡®house car¡¯. Towards the end an ironic statement reads that with ¡®no demand¡¯, groom seeks a ¡®fair, beautiful, tall, slim bride¡¯. Last line of the matrimonial ad reads, ¡®the bride must not be addicted to social media¡¯.

If one understands the meaning of a ¡®demand¡¯ these are not ¡®no¡¯ but five demands, unless ¡®demand¡¯ is a code for dowry.
While the ad, like almost all others is sexist in nature, seeking just external societal standards of beauty, the ¡®not addicted to social media¡¯ criteria has especially tickled people¡¯s bones.

What do you think? Is it possible for either the groom and the bride these days to not be addicted to social media at all? One thing Social Dilemma taught us is that social media is DESIGNED in a way for us to get addicted.
