Chinese Man Gulps 1.5 Litre Bottle Of Coca-Cola In 10 Minutes, Dies Of Gas Buildup In His Body

If you are a Coca-Cola lover, then this might change your perception about the soft drink. A Chinese man allegedly died after chugging 1.5 litre of Coca-Cola in 10 minutes.

It was said that the man's rapid consumption led to a fatal gas buildup in his body, which starved his liver of oxygen and eventually led to his death, the Daily Mail reported.

The freak accident was detailed in the journal ¡°Clinics and Research in Hepatology and Gastroenterology.¡±

The man, who wasn't identified, started experiencing a swollen stomach and severe pain six hours later, which prompted him to visit the Chaoyang Hospital in Beijing.

The tests carried out revealed that the patient - who had no underlying health issues - had an elevated heart rate, low blood pressure and rapid breathing. CT scans found he had pneumatosis, an abnormal presence of gas, in the wall of his intestine and his portal vein.

The scans also revealed he hepatic ischemia, otherwise known as ¡°shock liver,¡± which is caused by a lack of oxygen to the organ, per the report.

At that point, the medical staff tried to save the man by releasing the gas from his digestive system. They also administered medication to help safeguard his liver and other body parts from further damage, the Daily Mail reported.

Despite doctors efforts, the man's condition continued to worsen until he passed away 18 hours after treatment.
