In another shocking case of animal abuse, a theme park in China is facing flak for forcing a pig to a bungee jump.
The incident took place in Meixin Red Wine Town theme park, in Chongqing, south-west China; a disturbing video and pictures show the pig tied to a pole, carried by two men to the top of a tower before being pushed off.
The pig weighing 75 kg can be heard squealing as it bungees up and down over a body of water below.
People cheer as the pig is dropped, and an announcer narrates what is happening.
The theme park said the event was held to mark the opening of the new bungee attraction, the BBC reported.
According to the South China Morning Post, a park spokesperson called the event "just a bit of entertainment" and said that the animal was due to be killed anyway to eat, during Chinese New Year celebrations.
VIEWER'S DISCRETION ADVISED
The video was shared on social media faced swift backlash and criticism for animal abuse. One Twitter user wrote, 'This theme park should be shut down. This is beyond cruel'.
Another person wrote on social media platform Weibo: 'It was miserable for the animal! It's a disgusting marketing idea to attract attention by abusing a pig!', Global Times reported.
Speaking to Newsweek, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) Asia's vice president of international campaigns, Jason Baker, said: "This is cruelty to animals at its worst. A bungee jump is a scary experience even for consenting humans¡ªjust imagine the outright terror of being forcibly strung up by your legs and thrown from a high platform. That's the treatment that this pig received, all for a cheap laugh. Well, guess what? No one's laughing."

Animal rights consciousness in China is "relatively weak, especially for non-companion animals," a freelancer for animal protection organizations told the Global Times, and thus it's hard to mitigate this problem.
What's even worse is that same pig that was forced to bungee jump, was sent to a slaughterhouse after the event.
