Passport frauds are common all throughout the world and are typically employed by criminals who modify their passport data to escape identification.
The method is commonly used by terrorists and wanted gangsters, but can you fathom someone committing such a serious crime for something as insignificant as concealing their age from their partner?
Yes, something similar did happen in China.
Who used a fake passport to fake her age?
Struck by Cupid, an anonymous Chinese woman did something stupid: she changed her passport's date of birth to disguise her true age from her partner, who is 17 years her junior.
The 41-year-old woman was recently apprehended at the Beijing airport with a forged passport.
What did she exactly do?
According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the woman, whose identity has not been revealed, presented her passport to immigration officers so that it could be checked. When one of the inspectors saw something "unusual" with her passport, she was asked to provide further documents and travel information.
The woman tried to steal her passport away from the officer so he wouldn't look at it. She also suggested that her companion go through the security procedures before requesting a private conversation with the office.
How did she manage to use a fake passport?
Following that, the woman revealed that she had two Chinese passports, each with a different birth date. One of them showed her genuine age as 41, while the other said she was 27. She said that knowing her genuine age would harm her connection with her 24-year-old partner.
When their plans to visit Japan were revealed, the woman spent 6,500 yuan (about Rs 76,000) for a falsified passport with her age recorded as 27.
According to reports, the woman did not feel she had done anything wrong and showed no regret while being questioned by immigration agents. She insisted that all she had done was modify her age. She was eventually fined Rs 35,000, and the phoney passport was confiscated.
