Deep-Fried Water Is The Latest Food Trend And We Don't Know What To Make Of It
The latest and perhaps the most outlandish trend is the people's new found obsession for 'deep-fried water'.
When it comes to food, we have been treated to some weird new trends. From Nutella Biryani (which pierces right through the heart of an avid biryani lover) to Chywanprash filled ice cream, we have known bizarre.
As we go into each year, the experiments with food take a turn for worse. This is not to say that every new food trend is a bummer, there certainly are exceptions. But the one we are going to talk about, ranks among the most absurd and inexplicable.
The latest and perhaps the most outlandish trend is the people's new-found obsession for 'deep-fried water'. Stop it, already! The year is 2021, and we need an escape, real fast.
The trend might been gaining steam lately, but it first garnered attention in 2016
when YouTuber Jonathan Marcus did the deed. But after 5 years, the trend is alive and kicking again, thanks to another YouTuber.
In December 2020, James Orgill, who runs the channel The Action Lab. James, tried deep-frying water, and got it right in the first attempt itself but warned that it is potentially dangerous to try at home as water and oil don't mix together and all it needs a small leak for it to become an explosive splash.

James uses calcium alginate - a gelatin-like chemical compound made from aqueous calcium chloride and sodium alginate, which helps convert the water into an edible liquid membrane, in which the water is filled and deep-fried.
"Now this works totally well for those who aren't looking to add a lot of calories to your diet," James says in the video.
He simply makes water balls, coat them in egg, bread crumbs and flour deep-fries in hot oil!

The video has gained a lot of traction with over 9 lakh views on YouTube and counting.
People have left some hilarious comments on the video with one saying, "A: 'I just ate water' B: 'You mean drink?' A: 'Did I stutter?'"
