Wrong Number: Delhi Railway Police Helpline Receives Calls For Pizza Delivery, SIM Recharge
You might have heard of instances from the US, where people call 911 (the emergency number) for the stupidest reasons - may be because their pizza is cold or a baby is not going to sleep. Well, the railway police in Delhi is facing similar problems with the helpline number.
Turns out, the Delhi Railway Police Control Room receives almost 200 calls per day on its helpline number 1512, and about 80% of them are made by people requesting for pizza delivery, mobile recharges, job inquires and other trifle matters.
People literally ask the staff to get food items like pizza or burgers delivered to them or inquire about jobs in railways.
"Get my phone recharged, get pizza delivered, I want two burgers, tea, juices, cold water are some of the demands the passengers make," a senior police officer reportedly said.
Then there are also those passengers who ask for assistance to get their electricity bill paid or train tickets booked.

The helpline 1512, launched in 2015, is actually for passengers to register register their complaints with police when travelling in train or to report incidents of crime at railway stations.
The railway police helpline is a nationwide number. But people are apparently confusing railway HELPLINE for railway INQUIRY, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Dinesh Kumar Gupta.
The police believes that people are not really aware of the purpose of the helpline and thus end up making the unnecessary requests. Imagine what it is like for the staff at railway police control room who have to deal with these calls.
However, the Delhi Railway Police is trying to create awareness among passengers ¡®to seek police assistance in case of any difficulty or emergency¡¯.

Apparently, passengers also ask to get a train stopped, in case they're late to the station. Even though the number of junk calls are high, the staff deployed at the railway police control room strives to attend and answer every call.
"We also receive such junk calls from Gurgaon and Ghaziabad. If the call is worthy and genuine, we direct the call to the concerned control rooms of the nearest railway police station or police teams on-board the trains for action on complaints", a senior police officer reportedly said.
Even though the staff tries to deal with the calls politely, sometimes they end up getting abused also. Man, can people be stupid at times!
