Doctors Find Baby Growing In Woman's Bowel After She Complains Of Stomach Pain
The woman in the study was suffering from an abdominal ectopic pregnancy, which occurs when a fertilized egg implants in the abdominal cavity rather than the uterus.
A woman who was seeking medical assistance for acute stomach discomfort was surprised to discover that she was carrying a baby in her colon in an unusual and astonishing turn of events.
This incredible finding has stunned the medical community and the general public and left people in shock.
What Happened?
A 37-year-old woman (name withheld) recently discovered an unusual and confusing pregnancy abnormality, which was reported in the New England Journal of Medicine.
When she went to the doctor complaining of excruciating stomach discomfort, they found that she was 23 weeks pregnant and that her unborn child was growing inside her abdomen rather than in her uterus.
This unique example highlights an unprecedented circumstance because only 1% of ectopic pregnancies¡ªpregnancies in which a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus¡ªinvolve abdominal ectopic pregnancies.
Ectopic pregnancies usually arise in the fallopian tubes and account for less than 2% of all pregnancies.
When scans revealed the abdominal ectopic pregnancy, doctors were shocked.
How risky is this?
This situation puts the mother at serious risk of internal bleeding, ruptured tubes, or shock, with minimal chance of survival for the fetus. The woman's symptoms included excruciating pain in her abdomen, increasing bloating, and the possibility of potentially fatal consequences.
When faced with this unusual medical situation, medical staff moved the expectant mother to a tertiary hospital as soon as possible. The infant was delivered at 29 weeks, against the odds in such circumstances, and admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit.
Infants are usually deemed viable at 24 weeks of gestation, with a 60% to 70% chance of survival. Nevertheless, the odds of survival sharply increase to between 80% and 90% after 28 weeks.
After navigating potential problems, the woman and child were successfully discharged about three months after giving birth, indicating an amazing medical adventure that came to an end.
Where Did It Happen?
